Why We’re Bullish on Kentucky
While several new states will enter the Medical Marijuana marketplace in 2025, and several others will advance Adult-Use legislation, the promise of the State of Kentucky stands out for these reasons:
Limited License State
On January 1st, the medical marijuana program began in Kentucky. Dispensary shelves will start filling up as card holders will have access in February.
The state has been sectioned into 9 Regions:
1.Northeast, 2. South Central, 3. Cumberland, 4. Mountain, 5. Pennyrile, 6. West Kentucky, 7. Lincoln Trail, 8. North Kentucky, 9. Green River.
Only 85 licenses will be issued over all these regions. They consist of:
- 30 Cultivation licenses
- 30 Dispensary Licenses
- 15 Processor licenses
- 10 Safety Compliance Facility Licenses
By having two dispensary licenses in the populus South Central Region, and dispensary licenses in the Mountain, West Kentucky and Green River Regions, (as well as other multiple licenses across multiple regions), we at Highway 33 Capital have licenses and real estate assets in highly desirable locations for the right buyers.
Agricultural Expertise
The state’s fertile land and farming experience with Hemp provide the ideal area for high quality cannabis cultivation. (Some say, we are told, that cannabis may already be Kentucky’s number one cash crop!)
Economic Opportunity
The state’s Medical Marijuana program is expected to create numerous jobs across the several sectors of the cannabis business, providing a welcome economic boost and substantial opportunity for entrepreneurs and the local work force.
Regulatory Framework
The Medical Marijuana program in Kentucky, having learned from the positive and negative experience of other state governments, has resulted in a very structured regulatory framework. Clear license requirements and regulations provide a stable platform for cannabis businesses to operate and grow.
Growing Market
The door to the state is wide open for processors and manufacturers to market innovative products as the state’s Medical Marijuana demand grows into a bustling Adult-Use market as well. All within the boundaries of a limited license state.
and, SUPPORTIVE LEGISLATION
With the launch of Medical Marijuana on January 1st, the state legislature has shown a strong commitment for supporting the cannabis industry. Recent legislative efforts have softened some sections of the early regulations. And the push for Adult-Use has already begun.
Two legislative actions, State Senate Bill 36 and House Bill 105, soon up for votes, will loosen many cannabis restrains. That action is seen as paving the way for Adult-Use bills in the near future.
Supportive sentiment is expressed by State Senator David Yates who believes legal cannabis could be transformative for the Bluegrass State.
